Fortunately, most perennials are tougher than this, offering us decades of dazzling flowers & foliage. Among their ranks you’ll find an astonishing array of choices, literally something for everyone. Perennials range in size & shape from small mounds to giant towers, & there are choices for every imaginable garden spot. Daylily (Hemerocallis)

Type: Perennials

Environment: Full sun

Height: 12'-36' tall, 12' wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Long, thin, green leaf

Flower/Fruit: Different colors depending on variety, blooms spring-summer

Needs moist soil, full sun in order to flower the way it should. Divide bulbs in Fall or when they are finished blooming. Beautiful colors to choose from. New varieties introduced annually.

Heuchera (Heuchera x)

Type: Perennials

Environment: Full sun / Full shade

Height: 9'-12' tall, 12'-24' wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Oak leaf shape, various colors (dependent on variety)

Flower/Fruit: White, purple, pink flower in Spring/Summer

Cute plant in landscape. Great texture, color & round shape. It's great to use just as a specimen plant or as a contrast with other plants. Tolerates moist soil & drought.

Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina)

Type: Perennials

Environment: Part Sun / part shade

Height: 12' tall, 12' wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Long, fuzzy, silver tint

Flower/Fruit: purple (May-June)

Nice as ground cover or for borders in beds. Silvery white fuzzy foliage provides a pretty contrast to all plants. In the South, it's best to provide afternoon shade.

Lantana (Lantana camara)

Height: 6'-12' tall, 12'-4'wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Small, green textured leaf

Flower/Fruit: Flower colors vary depending on variety, blooms Spring-Fall

Drought tolerant, differing fragrances upon variety. Butterflies love it & hummingbirds go for red lantana. Cut back in Fall after it goes dormant & it will come back full & pretty in Spring.

Salvia (Salvia silvestris)

Type: Perennials

Environment: Full sun / Full shade

Height: 12'-36' tall, 8'-10' wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Long, thin, green leaf

Flower/Fruit: Different colors depending on variety, blooms spring-summer. Blue flowering varieties perform well in our area.

Most cultivars are drought and heat tolerant. Great for medium height between a low growing annual or perennial & taller shrub.

St. John's Wort (Hypericum calycinum)

Type: Perennials

Environment: Full sun / Full shade

Height: 3' tall, 3'-4' wide

Growing Season: Spring -Fall

Leaf: Long, green leaf

Flower/Fruit: Yellow flowers, blooming in Summer

A great landscape plant. Best used as a groundcover. This rapid grower is evergreen in many areas of the South.

Verbena (Verbena x hybrida)
